Tears in Venice

Residential Design by Raymond Li and Tavia Fan

The goal is to breakthrough from the original layout by creating more open space, aspiring to develop a better environment for familial interaction.

The Tears in Venice residential design, created by Raymond Li and Tavia Fan, aims to transform the traditional layout of a home into a more open and interactive space. The designers prioritize the importance of familial interaction and have developed a design that fosters a better environment for it.

One of the unique properties of this design is the introduction of light into the interior. Regardless of perspective, the ambiance is maintained, creating a sense of fluidity and openness. The multi-layers of space and depth in the room allow residents to gravitate towards it, feeling a sense of welcome and warmth.

The theme of the design is "FUSION," emphasizing the importance of the parent-child relationship in everyday life. The design team has created a comfortable and open dynamic living space that strongly enhances feelings among family members. The fusion of the living and dining room spaces encourages conversation and connection.

In order to bring warmth into the interior, the designers have incorporated a semi-open design at the entrance, allowing warm light to permeate the space. Additionally, the semi-outdoor balcony adds a new sense of life value to the design.

The Tears in Venice design measures 10000 mm in width, 9000 mm in depth, and 3000 mm in height. Its location is in Taichung, Taiwan, and the project was completed between May 2021 and September 2021.

Throughout the design process, the team faced challenges such as meeting the requirements of the legal review department and structural reinforcement application while fulfilling the owner's expectations. Clever design solutions were implemented to merge the two housing units and create a comfortable and open living space.

Upon entering the interior, one will immediately notice the sunlight running through the main living space. The carefully planned layout of cabinets creates a seamless path of light, fulfilling the storage needs of a family of four. Rounded surfaces are incorporated in the entrance area to soften the structure's sharpness and pressure, integrating seamlessly with the lighting design of the main living space.

The Tears in Venice design by Raymond Li and Tavia Fan has been recognized for its excellence. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2022 in the category of Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design. This award recognizes well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements, contributing to a better world.
